Week 1, 2019

Welcome to the first week of the 8th year of City Commons CSA! We are so happy to have you. This week the standard produce share includes:

Salad Mix (2 bags)

Head Lettuce

Radishes

Spinach

Oregano

Tarragon

As you may have heard, things are a little behind our usual schedule due to the cool, wet weather. The rain delayed planting some things as the soil was too wet to work with, and of course cool weather slows things down a bit. Overall- this wet weather should make for a fantastic season now that we are starting to warm up a bit. Limiting factors for plant growth are generally sunshine, water, warmth, and soil nutrients. Having water covered for a while helps out a lot! Here are some ideas from past years on how to make your salad game more exciting:

We also set up a Facebook group to allow our members to share what they are cooking with their CSA shares, you can join here. While we always try to include recipes here, with over 100 members we know there's a lot of great cooking ideas that we can't cover.Last- if you are looking to learn about more ways to use greens (a staple of our CSA)- we are happy to pass on that Keep Growing Detroit is doing a cooking class focused on Greens on June 17 at their farm in Eastern Market. More information here.
